Book description:
For eleven years, Oakley Farrell has been silent. At the age of five, she stopped talking, and no one seems to know why. Refusing to communicate beyond a few physical actions, Oakley remains in her own little world.
Bullied at school, she has just one friend, Cole Benson. Cole stands by her, refusing to believe that she is not perfect the way she is. Over the years, they have developed their own version of a normal friendship. However, will it still work as they start to grow even closer?
When Oakley is forced to face someone from her past, can she hold her secret in any longer?
Book review:
My rating-3.9 out of 5
My thoughts- This is an extremely good book in my opinion. The idea behind it is so unique I think and that's one of the main things why I really like this book. But, of course, there were things that it wasn't that I disliked or didn't like, I just think they could've been improved in a way.
For example, the bullying she faces is never really explained or gone in depth about. They just bully her because she doesn't talk. But there are a lot of myte people and, even though some do gt bullied and harass her, its not the norm, so I find it weird that she just gets bullied for no other apparent reason. Also, all the teachers and her parents seem to be oblivious to the fact that she gets bullied, which I find to be a little weird. Those are the only "inconsistent" factors of the book I found that don't really bother me *that* much but I have another issue with this book.
The one issue that has me torn is my feelings for Cole. Because let's face it, Cole is painted to be pretty damn perfect (but that's a whole other thing I'm not gonna elaborate on right now), but he actually is very possessive and gets obsessed to a point with Oakley. And some peole find it so romantic and beautiful but, since I am doing a very honest review, I will say my honest opinion and that is that, even though Cole is a great person, he reaches a level of obsession that I find concerning. Which is honestly weird since he is a fictional character and all.
But that left me torn with this book and its sequel and I honestly wish it didn't bother me as much as it does.
But besides all that (which seems like a lot and people may think I hated that book by reading what I just wrote), I really liked this book and I would recommend it to anyone that is not bothered by strong subjects because this story does deal with some of that and if you're just looking for a book with fluffiness and a little bit of drama, this book is for you.
Hope this review didn't seem so harsh because it is an amazing book so you can totally go ahead and read it!
